SUMMER ASSIGNMENT - INTERNAL ASSESSMENT PRELIMINARY IDEAS

ASSIGNMENT DUE FIRST DAY OF CLASS IN AUGUST:
This will require forward thinking and planning. This is the first year I've assigned this, but I estimate it'll take you about 3 hours to complete.

THE ASSIGNMENT:

Example (if I was planning the stream study we're doing in August)
Environmental Issue:
Water Quality of streams in the southeastern USA
Research Question:
How does the water quality of an urban stream (Briar Creek in Charlotte, NC, USA) compare to that of a more rural stream (South Crowders Creek, Crowders Mountain State Park, King's Mountain, NC, USA)?

SUMMER ASSIGNMENT - NO IMPACT WEEK PROJECT

ASSIGNMENT DUE SECOND DAY OF CLASS IN AUGUST: (Major Quarter 1 Grade)
This will require forward thinking and planning. You cannot do this the day before it's due... it should take about 5-7 days.

THE ASSIGNMENT:

NO IMPACT WEEK GUIDE:

IA GUIDE

Notes:

  • Read the Guide (link above). Read the Guide (link above). Read the Guide (link above). Read the Guide (link above). Read the Guide (link above).
  • Ask Mrs. Toth Questions if you have them. Ask Mrs. Toth Questions if you have them. Ask Mrs. Toth Questions if you have them.
  • Word Count Range: 1500-2250
    • If it's mainly numbers and a formula or a statement of the mechanism used to calculate - excel, TI84 etc then it would be part of the data, not in the word count. If it is a paragraph of text with analysis too then it probably will be counted.
    • Tables of text count in the word count, unless it is part of data and of reasonable length.
    • References DO NOT count.
    • Titles for figures do NOT count, headings in tables etc do NOT count.
    • Information in the cells of tables must be of a reasonable length (less than 12 words...this is a guess by me )
    • Annotations to pictures etc should also be of a limited length.
    • If figures look like they are trying to add written information to circumvent the word count then they will be counted as part of the word count.
    • "Candidates must not include extended text (for example, explanations, analyses and evaluations) within tables or as footnotes, annotations or bullet points in an attempt to exclude it from the word count. If this is done, any extended text will be included in the word count."
  • Appendices are NOT allowed.

IT IS DUE ON MONDAY MARCH 27 IN CLASS @ 12:45pm.

  • Step1: Submit to TurnItIn.com by 12:45pm Monday, March 27.
  • Step2: Submit HARD COPY to Mrs. Toth in-class on Monday, March 27.
    • Come Prepared... Print out your report before you come to class.
    • Use the media center or another teacher. My printer will not be available that day.
